RECORDS

The White Lake Police Records Bureau is comprised of three civilian employees who are responsible for receiving and processing the majority of the documents that are generated or received by the police department. The Records Bureau is responsible for maintaining the integrity of all police records. Each year, on average, the Records Bureau processes more
than ten thousand incidents, approximately nine hundred accident reports and nearly four thousand traffic tickets. Processing these records requires extensive data entry. Records personnel also process thousands of subpoenas each year for officers as well as all other witnesses for court cases. In addition to processing the subpoenas a file must be prepared for each court case. In 2004 approximately two thousand court cases were prepared. The Records Bureau also processes requests for copies of incident and accident reports as well as freedom of information requests. Handgun purchase permits and registrations are another function of the Records Bureau. Each year, hundreds of weapons are inspected and processed by records personnel who complete registration forms and data entry for each weapon.

In addition to the functions mentioned above, Records Bureau personnel perform many other duties. Responding to telephone calls for information, completing State mandated reports and compiling statistics are just a few of those duties.
